Three ways you can make your family's teeth happy this holiday season:

We all want to look our best for the holidays. Why not make you family’s teeth happy this holiday season? We know, we don’t actually mean that the teeth have real feelings like we do. But we do believe that they, too, deserve the same attention that is placed into choosing the right holiday outfit or how you should do you hair. We have the following ideas to get you on the right track:
  • Smile design: There is no better time than now to get the smile design treatment you’ve always wanted. Just in time for the holidays, you can look your best and we can guarantee that there is no accessory more beautiful than a healthy, white smile.
  • Oral care stocking stuffer: We usually stuff stockings with small useful items. Guess what? Oral care products like toothbrushes, mouthwash, floss and toothpaste make for excellent stocking stuffer and also helps remind them to take care of their teeth.
  • Don’t forget to stay hydrated: By hydrated, we mean water. All the festivities and constant snacking can cause us to choose to consume everything but a glass of water. Drinking water is imperative to maintaining a healthy smile and can also help flush away harmful plaque and tartar causing bacteria.
Whatever you and your family are doing this holiday season, we hope you have fun and enjoy the quality time together. We wish you happy holidays and a New Year filled with love, laughter and a healthy smile.

What should I do if my tooth falls out?

Taking care of your smile should be a priority for your overall health. Your smile is a fundamental structure of your facial features and should be cared for accordingly as you only get one set of teeth for a lifetime. However, tooth decay and accidents do occur. The good news? There are way to sometimes save or replace the missing tooth.

If an accident occurs or you are suffering from severe tooth decay and a tooth falls out, you should immediately visit your dentist for a solution. There are many ways to cover a missing tooth, and it is extremely important that you visit us in a timely manner since the open space can cause other teeth to shift. Also, if the tooth fell our due to an accident, any pieces left can lead to an infection.

A missing tooth may affect your look and impact your self-esteem. It also leaves the surrounding teeth vulnerable to shifting. Our dentists at Cyberdent will recommend the best option for you, ranging from dental implants or bridges to dentures. All treatment options provide a solution so you can smile confidently and happily. Visit our dental practice today to learn more!

5 ways to treat a toothache.

A toothache generally occurs when the pulp, located at the center of each tooth, becomes swollen. This pain could be due to several reasons ranging from cavities to a mild or severe infection. You could help the pain with the following tips we will share with you but keep in mind it is always best to call our dentist right away to determine the problem and avoid complications further on:
  1. Take a painkiller. OTC medicine such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) can help ease the pain for minor toothaches.
  2. Numb the affected area: you can purchase a numbing gel to relieve the pain for a couple of hours. This can be purchased in any drugstore or pharmacy without prescription.
  3. Apply ice: ice helps to swell down the affected area and ease the pain. You can buy a cold compress or simply place ice on a towel and press it on.
  4. Clean your mouth: check the cavities in our mouth for small pieces of food that might have been gotten stuck. Brush, floss thoroughly and rinse.
  5. Use home or alternative remedies: sea salt rinse (warm water and a spoonful of sea salt), clove oil, hydrogen peroxide (apply with a Q-tip, do not swallow), acupressure and even hard liquor (pressed on a cotton ball) are other alternatives used to relieve the pain.
Follow these tips to relieve the pain temporarily but we strongly advise to visit our dentist to make sure nothing serious is causing it. If you experience fever or chills, discharge, unbearable pain or have trouble swallowing or breathing visit us right away. Our experienced and caring dental staff at our dental office in Glendale or Van Nuys will treat you with the best care possible, providing you with the latest in dentistry in a relaxed and soothing environment.

Achieve a great smile with dental fillings

With contemporary restorative materials it is possible to restore the tooth structure with fillings that are virtually indistinguishable from the tooth structure.

In following case the broken front tooth is restored with bonded composite filling material that perfectly mimics the tooth color, translucency, and the shape.

This approach is very conservative and there is no need to reduce the tooth structure for porcelain veneer or a crown.

When to take your child to the dentist...

As parents, we want to provide our children with the best medical care available in order to keep them safe and healthy. Our children's oral health should not be the exception! Having good oral health prevents us from many other health complications that can be derived from oral problems. In order to achieve this, we need to create good oral habits.

Starting dental care early and teaching our children how to brush and floss correctly can really help create the habit of a clean smile. It is recommended to take each child to a first dental visit six months after the eruption of a first tooth, but if you see a discoloration or any possible complication, you should schedule the appointment sooner.

At Cyberdent, we will make sure your child's first dental visit is gentle, caring and fun. We will check jaw and bite formation, gum development and any possible tooth decay. Remember to schedule regular checkups with our dentists every six months or earlier if you detect any possible problems. Call or visit us anytime, we are here to provide the best care to your infant and entire family!

At Cyberdent we strongly encourage our patients to maintain an impeccable oral hygiene particularly for the ones wearing braces. Poor maintenance during orthodontic treatment can lead to the damage of the enamel of the teeth.

The following case shows the result of enamel degradation after braces. We had to treated these teeth with porcelain veneers to restore the natural shape, shade, and functionality of the teeth.

Early Detection…the Key to Beating Oral Cancer

Cyberdent

Did you know that every hour someone dies from oral cancer? The death rate for oral cancer is increasing. 640,000 new cases of oral cancer are found each year worldwide; if not detected early, only about half of these people will be alive in the next five years.

Early detection of oral cancer can significantly improve your survival rate to 80 -90%. Since this is a disease that can go unnoticed, it is important to have regular checkups in order to identify if you have oral cancer or are at risk to get it. Our dentists may detect unusual lumps, abnormal tissues, sores or pains that will have an immediate follow up to discard any complication further on.

April is the Oral, Head and Neck Cancer awareness month as declared by the Oral Cancer Foundation, at Cyberdent we are giving all our patients a FREE oral cancer screening at our dental office. Come today and preserve your dental health so your loved ones can see you smile for a long long time!
