Sedation Dentistry: "A Reason to Dream"

Dentist Pasadena

Frequently, a scheduled visit to the dentist is looked on with a degree of anxiety and fear. As a matter of fact, nearly 30% of Americans are afraid of a dentist and feel uncomfortable when placed in a dental chair. However, there is no need to hide or feel embarrassed about dental anxiety. Our specialized dental team at CyberDent in Glendale and Van Nuys offers Sedation Dentistry for a pain and stress-free dental experience.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation Dentistry is a procedure that involves the use of sedative medications to produce a relaxed and anxiety-free experience for patients with dental phobias, enabling the dentist to perform dental treatment.

Unlike sleep dentistry which involves the use of general anesthesia and a deep state of sleep, with sedation dentistry patients feel sleepy but are still conscious although they may not remember much of the dental procedure.

Types of Sedation

There are several types of sedation to facilitate a relaxing dental visit. These are:

  • Oral conscious sedation
  • Inhalation sedation - nitrous oxide
  • Intravenous (IV) sedation
  • Intramuscular sedation
  • Local anesthesia

Who is a candidate for Sedation Dentistry?

People who…

  • Fear needles and shots
  • Feel anxiety with noises, smells and tastes related to dental treatment
  • Had traumatic dental experiences in the past
  • Have very sensitive teeth
  • Have a serious gag reflex
  • Have limited time to complete dental treatment
  • Have complex dental conditions

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry provides great benefits for patients of all ages. Our Glendale
and Van Nuys dentists, recommend sedation because it:

  1. Creates a relaxing atmosphere for patients undergoing treatment
  2. Makes treatment faster without requiring further visits
  3. Enables patients to stay still and control their nerves
  4. Makes patients feel like the procedure only took a couple of minutes
  5. Helps overcome dental phobias and fears

Safe, effective and comfortable dental treatment for anxious and fearful patients is available at CyberDent. Call our dental office today for an appointment and we will let you know which level and type of sedation is best for you!

April is the Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Month!

Bookmark and Share

Oral Cancer Foundation in declaring April as Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Month!

Over the past several decades there is no significant decrease in incidence of Oral Cancer mostly because roughly two-thirds of the time, oral cancer is discovered in late stages, when the 5-year survival rate is about 30%. If we can discover oral cancer in early stages, however, the survival rate goes up to 80% - 90%. Of course, if we can discover the condition in pre-cancerous stages, that’s even better.

The single-most important thing you can do to reduce the impact of oral cancer is to have comprehensive oral cancer exams at least once a year at CyberDent.

During the month of April You can get free oral cancer screening at CyberDent.

At a minimum, this exam consists of looking for lesions in the oral cavity with the naked eye, and palpating the neck and face for suspicious lumps. This inspection can be augmented with an exam using an adjudicative device, such as ones using fluorescence visualization technology. Fortunately, both exams take only a few minutes combined and are non-invasive to patients.

Oral Cancer Screening

Every hour someone dies from oral cancer in North America. The best way to guard yourself against oral cancer is by discovering it early. Early detection of oral cancer improves the chances of survival.

Sapphire Plus Lesion Detection helps to notice abnormalities in soft tissues of the mouth and is clinically proven to discover even non-apparent oral lesions.

The screening procedure is quick, easy, and effective method of early detection. The procedure is painless, takes only a few minutes during routine checkup, and is inexpensive.

If you find a sore lesion in your mouth that is not healing, you should call us to make an appointment for us to check things out. Catching the cancer early enough allows clinicians to implement the treatment with most favorable outcomes.
